42,300 sq feet

This 42,300 square-foot addition allowed the production floor to double in size, and the existing 49,600 square-foot space was reconfigured and remodeled to allow for greater efficiency. All work was performed while the building remained fully operational.

As nearly 80% of the employees are legally blind and typically arrive by public transportation, way-finding cues were important in the overall site and building configuration.

Easily understood circulation and the use of texture and high contrasting colors provide a friendly environment for the visually impaired. Unique features of the design include a sensory garden with emphasis on touch and smell and an interior kennel to accommodate employee service animals. The owners desired that the existing facility and the new addition met LEED® Silver requirements.
